July Race - The Watermelon Run

This month's race was my first 5k race since April....May & June races didn't work for my family schedule so I had to do those virtually which means at the gym...wuah, wuah.....so I was super excited that July worked and it's one of my favorites!
I've run it before, last time being 2010. My middle daughter was 17mos old and I would get pregnant with baby #3 just 6mos later...so you'd think I would have been in shape....think again.....

This race is pretty fun & festive. Everyone is decked out in 4th of July gear, we run through the beautiful houses in Winter Park then have a 4th of July celebration after with watermelon, hot dogs, music, bounce houses, kids tricycle parade....it's so cute! Makes me feel like I live in a little town when we don't. My sister decided to tag along in this race again and we had fun as usual. We had our husbands & kids meet up with us after to attend the celebration.

About to cross the finish line
My hubby's station had their truck out so they could showcase the flag.
We had a great time and it was a wonderful run. When we got home, I found the pic my husband took of me at the last watermelon race I did. It's amazing to see how far I have come and knowing that I won't ever be back there makes me even happier. I am so proud of myself and with each race it just gets easier. You just have to keep going. There's Yur Sign Motivation. I didn't think I could run a 5k in a million years, but I did it...at freaking 200+lbs no less. Now 3 years later, I've done 7 in just 1 year. You can do it, you just have to tell yourself you can. Set a realistic goal and achieve it! Then set another & another.....
Eventually you will turn from being that worn out, barely ran the damn thang, red-faced girl to the left that couldn't wait to stop to the excited, barely broke a sweat, smiley gal on the right that doesn't want to stop......

Congrats to Katie Farrell for winning my 1st giveaway!!!! You won yourself some Fruit Punch Spark & 24 DVD from Advocare & some special goodies from me!!!! I'll send you an email today to get your info.

  4. You are AWESOME lady! How cool to be able to look back at where you began and see how far you have come. I am diggin' the comparison pics. The face in the first pic is tired and unsure but your second pic looks proud and happy! Way to go.

  5. Congrats on the 5K, it sounded like so much fun. I've always wanted to do a 5K, heck once, one of my life goals was to run a marathon. Maybe with this new start I can start thinking about it again! Thanks for the amazing motivation!

    1. I actually did a 10k in March...you can read about it under the March Race. It was okay. I am more of a 5k kinda gal. I like the length and the fun of it. I always wanted to do a half marathon at Disney but after that 10k I realized it may not be for me....you never know though...

  8. Congrats on your run and I'm loving your photo of your previous and current race! Keep up the good work. I HATE running (knees hate it even more) so I have to stick with my Zumba and other fun things. I will walk fast with you though! LOL
